INCA-16N - Colla Bolas Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
This four-figure set depicts Colla Warriors armed with bolas, representing the distinctive military traditions of the Colla people during the period of the Inca Empire.
The set includes warriors wearing contrasting red-and-white and blue-and-white striped tunics, reflecting the colourful clothing associated with these indigenous soldiers.
The Colla were particularly recognisable by their conical black woollen caps, known as Chukka, which commonly featured crescent-shaped badges. Their traditional tunics, called Uncu, were decorated with broad vertical stripes arranged into four panels.
Their characteristic weapon was the bolas, formed from several stone weights wrapped in rawhide and connected by cords. When thrown, the weights could entangle an opponent or bring down a charging horse by wrapping around its legs.
The use of bolas against Spanish cavalry was recorded during the rebellion of Manco Inca, illustrating the effectiveness of this traditional weapon in confronting mounted soldiers.
These warriors represent the variety of regional military traditions found throughout the Andean territories of the Inca Empire.
This four-figure set makes an excellent addition to a larger Inca military formation, particularly when displayed alongside spearmen, slingers and other Colla warriors.
