INCA-17A - Colla Bolas Warrior | John Jenkins Designs

This Colla Warrior represents an indigenous soldier equipped with a bolas, a distinctive throwing weapon associated with the peoples of the Andean highlands.

The figure is depicted wearing a red-and-white vertically striped tunic and carrying a shield while preparing to spin his bolas.

The Colla were known for their traditional black woollen caps, called Chukka, which were conical in shape and frequently decorated with crescent-shaped badges.

Their clothing also featured distinctive striped tunics, known as Uncu, with broad vertical panels that made their appearance particularly recognisable.

The bolas was constructed using several stone weights enclosed in rawhide and attached to lengths of cord. The weapon was spun before release, allowing the weighted cords to wrap around an intended target.

This weapon was especially effective against mounted opponents, as the cords could become entangled around a horse's legs. Historical accounts record its use against Spanish cavalry during the rebellion led by Manco Inca.

The figure captures the distinctive fighting methods of the Colla people and provides an excellent addition to military displays depicting the Inca Empire and the Spanish conquest of the Andes.
