INCA-17AN - Colla Bolas Warrior | John Jenkins Designs

This three-figure set represents Colla Warriors preparing to use their traditional bolas weapons, illustrating the distinctive military practices of the Andean region during the period of the Inca Empire.

The figures are depicted wearing tunics with broad vertical red-and-white stripes, carrying shields and spinning their bolas in preparation for release.

The Colla people were known for their traditional clothing, including the distinctive Chukka, a conical black woollen cap commonly decorated with a crescent-shaped badge.

Their striped tunics, known as Uncu, featured broad vertical panels that were characteristic of Colla dress.

The bolas was a throwing weapon formed from two to five stone weights wrapped in rawhide and joined by cords approximately eighteen inches long. When thrown correctly, the weighted cords could wrap around an opponent or entangle the legs of a horse.

Historical accounts describe the use of bolas against Spanish cavalry during Manco Inca's rebellion, demonstrating the importance of this traditional weapon during the resistance to Spanish control.

This three-figure set provides an excellent opportunity to recreate a coordinated group of Colla warriors preparing to attack, particularly when combined with other bolas-armed figures from the collection.
