INCA-17BN - Colla Bolas Warrior | John Jenkins Designs

This three-figure set depicts Colla Warriors equipped with bolas, representing the distinctive fighting traditions of the Colla people during the period of the Inca Empire.

The figures are shown wearing broad blue-and-white vertically striped tunics, carrying shields and spinning their bolas in preparation for an attack.

The Colla were an indigenous people of the Andean region who maintained distinctive clothing and military customs. Their traditional headwear was the Chukka, a conical black woollen cap that commonly featured a crescent-shaped badge.

Their tunics, known as Uncu, were decorated with vertical striped patterns divided into panels.

The bolas was a specialised throwing weapon made from several stone weights wrapped in rawhide and attached to cords. When spun and released, the weights could entangle an opponent or bring down a horse by wrapping around its legs.

Historical descriptions record the use of bolas against Spanish cavalry during Manco Inca's rebellion, illustrating the continued importance of traditional indigenous weapons during the resistance to Spanish rule.

This three-figure set provides an excellent addition to displays depicting the Colla warriors and the wider military forces associated with the Inca Empire.
