JR-29A - Lowland Infantry | John Jenkins Designs
This Jacobite Lowland Infantry figure represents a soldier serving within the Jacobite army during the Rising of 1745.
The figure belongs to the Battle of Culloden collection, depicting the final major confrontation between the Jacobite forces of Charles Edward Stuart and the government army commanded by the Duke of Cumberland.
The Jacobite Rising began in August 1745 when Charles Edward Stuart raised his standard at Glenfinnan, seeking to restore his father to the British throne.
Although the rebellion is often associated with Highland clans, the Jacobite army also contained substantial numbers of Lowland and northeastern Scottish soldiers, together with Franco-Irish and other contingents.
Many Lowland units were organised and trained according to contemporary European military practices, using infantry drill and formations influenced by professional armies.
These soldiers formed an important part of the Jacobite fighting force during the campaign that culminated at Culloden in April 1746.
This individual Lowland Infantry figure complements the Highland warriors and other Jacobite soldiers, helping collectors represent the diversity of the army rather than concentrating exclusively on clan-based Highland formations.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
