JT-07N - Virginia Militia | John Jenkins Designs

This four-figure set represents Virginia Militiamen serving during the Anglo-Powhatan Wars, the conflicts between English colonial settlers and the indigenous Powhatan peoples of eastern Virginia.

The set includes two musketeers firing their weapons using rests, accompanied by two kneeling soldiers armed with pistols and round shields.

These varied poses and weapons illustrate the different roles represented within the early colonial militia.

Jamestown was established by the Virginia Company of London in May 1607 and became the first permanent English settlement in North America.

The surrounding territory was inhabited by the Powhatan peoples, whose communities were united under the leadership of the paramount chief Wahunsenacawh.

As English settlement expanded, relations deteriorated, eventually resulting in a series of conflicts between 1609 and 1646.

Following the major Powhatan attacks of March 1622, the colonial militia participated in repeated military operations against Powhatan settlements.

This four-figure set provides an excellent foundation for a Virginia Militia infantry formation, combining musket fire with soldiers equipped for closer combat.

It is particularly suitable for creating larger battlefield displays alongside other Virginia Militia figures and Powhatan Warriors.
