JT-09 - Virginia Militia | John Jenkins Designs
This two-figure set depicts Virginia Militiamen serving during the early colonial period of North America and the conflicts known as the Anglo-Powhatan Wars.
The set includes one soldier standing with a musket and rest while waving his hat, accompanied by another holding a sword pointed downwards and carrying a round shield.
The contrasting poses provide a variation from the firing and advancing soldiers represented elsewhere in the Virginia Militia collection.
The Jamestown settlement was established by the Virginia Company of London in May 1607, becoming England's first permanent colony in the Americas.
The settlement was located along the James River in eastern Virginia, within the territory of the Powhatan peoples.
Relations between the settlers and neighbouring indigenous communities were marked by periods of cooperation and increasing conflict as the colony expanded.
Three major Anglo-Powhatan Wars were fought between 1609 and 1646, with the Virginia Militia participating in the defence of colonial settlements and military operations throughout the region.
This two-figure set provides an interesting addition to a colonial military display and can be combined with other Virginia Militia figures to create a varied historical scene.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
