JT-09N - Virginia Militia | John Jenkins Designs

This four-figure set depicts Virginia Militiamen during the Anglo-Powhatan Wars, representing the English colonial forces of early 17th-century Virginia.

The set includes two soldiers standing with muskets and rests while waving their hats, together with two infantrymen holding swords pointed downwards and carrying round shields.

The varied poses provide an alternative to the firing and advancing figures in the collection, allowing collectors to construct more diverse colonial infantry formations.

The settlement of Jamestown was established by the Virginia Company of London in May 1607 along the James River, becoming England's first permanent settlement in North America.

The English settlers occupied territory within the homeland of the Powhatan peoples, whose communities maintained an extensive political alliance across eastern Virginia.

Increasing tensions over colonial settlement and expansion resulted in three major conflicts known as the Anglo-Powhatan Wars.

The first began in 1609, while further fighting followed the coordinated attacks organised under Opchanacanough in March 1622.

The Virginia Militia played an important role in the colony's defence and subsequent military expeditions against Powhatan settlements.

This four-figure set is particularly suitable for recreating larger colonial military formations and can be displayed alongside other Virginia Militia infantry and command figures.
