QBLG-07 - 40th Grenadiers | John Jenkins Designs
This two-figure set represents soldiers of the Louisbourg Grenadiers, a combined British grenadier formation established during General James Wolfe's campaign against Quebec in 1759.
The Louisbourg Grenadiers were a temporary military unit assembled from grenadier companies of the 22nd, 40th and 45th Regiments of Foot.
The unit was formed at the Fortress of Louisbourg in Nova Scotia in preparation for British military operations along the St. Lawrence River.
Grenadiers were selected infantry soldiers traditionally associated with demanding battlefield duties. During the Quebec campaign, the Louisbourg Grenadiers took part in several engagements leading up to the decisive Battle of the Plains of Abraham.
Among these was the unsuccessful British assault at Beauport on 31 July 1759, which formed part of the prolonged campaign against the French defences of Quebec.
The Battle of the Plains of Abraham was fought on 13 September 1759 and resulted in a decisive British victory.
Following the capture of Quebec, the Louisbourg Grenadiers also participated in the campaign that led to the fall of Montreal in 1760. The temporary unit was eventually disbanded after the Seven Years' War.
This set provides an excellent addition to British infantry formations depicting the Quebec campaign and the combined grenadier companies under Wolfe's command.
