RRB60-16 - 2 Skirmishing | John Jenkins Designs

This two-figure set depicts line infantry of the 60th (Royal American) Regiment of Foot engaged in skirmishing during the French and Indian War.

The figures represent soldiers serving within the British regular infantry forces in North America during the middle of the 18th century.

The 60th Regiment was formed following General Braddock's defeat in 1755, when British authorities sought to strengthen their military forces for operations in North America.

The new regiment was originally designated the 62nd, or Royal American, Regiment of Foot. In February 1757, it was redesignated the 60th Regiment.

Recruitment was intended to draw soldiers from Germany and German colonial communities in North America, although difficulties resulted in the regiment being assembled from a variety of backgrounds.

Despite these challenges, the Royal Americans developed into a respected formation within the British Army.

The two skirmishing infantrymen provide an active contrast to the regiment's marching and at-attention figures.

An excellent addition to a British military display, particularly when combined with other 60th Regiment soldiers to recreate a larger infantry engagement.
