RRBNJ-02 - New Jersey | John Jenkins Designs

This two-figure set represents line infantry of the New Jersey Provincial Regiment, known as the Jersey Blues, during the French and Indian War.

The soldiers are depicted standing at attention, reflecting the organised military formations of the colonial provincial regiments serving alongside British forces in North America.

The Jersey Blues were raised by the New Jersey provincial government in 1755. Originally consisting of five companies, the regiment was sent to the northern frontier to assist in defending British interests against French forces.

The regiment became known as the Jersey Blues partly because of its blue coats, which were a distinctive feature of its uniform.

On 4 April 1758, the New Jersey General Assembly authorised an increase in the regiment's strength to 1,000 officers and men, including a company of 100 grenadiers.

The regiment subsequently participated in the campaign against Fort Carillon, or Ticonderoga, in July 1758.

These two infantrymen provide an excellent addition to a New Jersey Provincial Regiment collection, particularly when displayed alongside other line infantry, grenadiers, officers and drummers.
