RRBPEN-03 - Pennsylvanian Reg. | John Jenkins Designs

This two-figure set represents line infantry of the Pennsylvanian Provincial Regiment standing at attention during the French and Indian War.

The figures depict members of the colonial military forces established to protect Pennsylvania's frontier settlements during the conflict between Britain and France in North America.

Following General Braddock's defeat in July 1755, Pennsylvania began developing military defences against the increasing threat of attacks along its frontier.

The governor authorised the construction of forts at Carlisle and Shippensburg, together with the formation of volunteer military companies.

In November 1755, the Pennsylvania Assembly approved the establishment of a provincial regiment from existing volunteers and militia.

The regiment was formally organised into two battalions in March 1756, commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Conrad Weiser and Colonel John Armstrong.

A further battalion was later raised under Colonel William Clapham to assist in defending the Augusta region.

These two infantrymen provide an excellent addition to a Pennsylvanian Provincial formation, particularly when combined with the regiment's other line infantry, officers and drummers.
