RRBSC-03 - S. Carolina Reg. | John Jenkins Designs

This two-figure set represents line infantry of the South Carolina Provincial Regiment standing at attention during the French and Indian War.

The figures belong to the colonial military forces raised to support British operations in North America during the mid-18th century.

The South Carolina Provincial Regiment was established on 6 July 1757, following legislation passed by the colonial Assembly.

The regiment was originally intended to consist of seven companies of 100 men each, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Probart Howarth.

Howarth was an experienced officer who had participated in General Braddock's campaign and also held a commission in the Independent Companies.

The South Carolina Provincials became known as the Buffs, a nickname derived from the facing colour of their uniforms.

Although an establishment of 700 men was authorised, recruitment proved difficult, and by the middle of 1758 the regiment contained approximately 550 privates.

These two infantrymen provide an excellent addition to a South Carolina Provincial Regiment display, particularly when combined with marching soldiers, officers and drummers to build a larger formation.
