RRBSC-03N - S. Carolina Reg. Set | John Jenkins Designs

This four-figure set depicts line infantry of the South Carolina Provincial Regiment standing at attention during the French and Indian War.

The regiment formed part of the colonial military forces raised to support British operations in North America, and its soldiers became known as the Buffs.

The South Carolina Provincial Regiment was established by the colonial Assembly on 6 July 1757, with an intended strength of seven companies consisting of 100 men each.

Lieutenant-Colonel Probart Howarth, a veteran of Braddock's campaign, was appointed to command the regiment.

Each company was organised with commissioned officers, sergeants, corporals and drummers, reflecting the military structure established for the provincial force.

The regiment's nickname, the Buffs, referred to the facing colour of its uniforms.

Despite plans to recruit 700 soldiers, the provincial authorities experienced considerable difficulties in finding sufficient men. By the middle of 1758, the regiment contained approximately 550 privates.

This four-figure set is particularly suitable for creating a larger South Carolina infantry formation and complements the regiment's officers, drummers and marching soldiers.
