RRBSC-06N - S. Carolina Reg. Set | John Jenkins Designs

This four-figure set depicts marching soldiers of the South Carolina Provincial Regiment during the French and Indian War.

Representing troops from the regiment known as the Buffs, the figures provide an opportunity to construct a larger marching column of colonial infantry.

The South Carolina Provincial Regiment was established on 6 July 1757 under legislation passed by the colonial Assembly.

The original establishment called for seven companies of 100 men each, with Lieutenant-Colonel Probart Howarth appointed as commanding officer.

The regiment's organisation reflected the structure of contemporary infantry units, with each company including commissioned officers, sergeants, corporals and drummers.

The South Carolina Provincials became known as the Buffs because of the distinctive facing colour of their uniforms.

Despite official efforts to raise the required number of soldiers, recruitment proved difficult, and by the middle of 1758 the regiment remained below its planned strength.

This four-figure marching set makes an excellent addition to a colonial military display, particularly when combined with other South Carolina infantry, officers and drummers to create a substantial regimental formation.
