RRBSC-09B - Drummer | John Jenkins Designs

This South Carolina Provincial Drummer represents a military musician serving with the regiment known as the Buffs during the French and Indian War.

The figure provides an additional regimental musician for collectors assembling a representation of the South Carolina provincial forces.

The South Carolina Provincial Regiment was established by an act of the colonial Assembly on 6 July 1757.

The regiment was intended to comprise seven companies of 100 men, commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Probart Howarth.

The authorised establishment of each company included commissioned officers, four sergeants, four corporals and two drummers.

The regiment acquired the nickname the Buffs from the facing colour of its uniforms.

Recruitment proved difficult, and the planned establishment of 700 men was not achieved during the regiment's early service.

By the middle of 1758, the regiment contained approximately 550 privates.

This individual drummer complements the South Carolina Provincial officers and infantry figures, providing a useful addition to a regimental assembly or marching formation.

Now available from The Military Workshop.
