RRBSC-09C - Drummer | John Jenkins Designs
This South Carolina Provincial Drummer represents a military musician serving within the colonial regiment known as the Buffs during the French and Indian War.
The figure is an alternative drummer within the South Carolina Provincial collection, allowing collectors to add variety to regimental formations and historical military displays.
The regiment was established by the South Carolina Assembly on 6 July 1757 and placed under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Probart Howarth.
The original organisation called for seven companies, each consisting of 100 men.
Each company was intended to include a captain, two lieutenants and an ensign, supported by non-commissioned officers and two drummers.
The regiment became known as the Buffs, a name associated with the facing colour of its uniforms.
Recruitment was a continuing challenge, and the regiment remained below its intended strength during the following year.
This individual drummer is a useful companion to the regiment's officers and line infantry, particularly when combined with other musicians to recreate the organised appearance of an 18th-century provincial military formation.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
