SSB-40 - Cheyenne Wolf Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
This Cheyenne Wolf Warrior represents a member of the Owl-Man's Bowstring Society, also known as the Wolf Warriors, during the conflicts on the American Great Plains.
The figure forms part of the Thunder on the Plains collection, depicting the military and cultural traditions of Cheyenne warriors during the 19th century.
The Wolf Warrior Society was associated with the Southern Cheyenne and was among the later warrior societies to emerge.
Its membership generally numbered between 100 and 200 warriors, with men aged fifteen and older able to request admission.
Unlike some other societies, the Wolf Warriors did not maintain a single standard style of clothing. Members could wear individual garments, although certain ceremonial items were associated with the society.
These included wolf hides worn in a poncho-like fashion and distinctive lances, some decorated extensively with eagle feathers.
The society was also known for colourful clothing, singing and ceremonial dancing.
This figure provides an excellent addition to a Cheyenne warrior display, particularly when combined with other society members to represent the varied military traditions of the Great Plains.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
