THYORK-06 - Archer | John Jenkins Designs
Representing a Yorkist Archer during the Wars of the Roses (1455–1487), this figure forms part of a collection depicting the soldiers and military formations involved in the struggle between the Houses of Lancaster and York.
The Wars of the Roses arose from competing claims to the English throne and continued through several periods of conflict during the second half of the 15th century. The struggle ultimately reached its decisive turning point at the Battle of Bosworth Field on 22 August 1485.
At Bosworth, King Richard III led the Yorkist army against Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond. During the battle, Richard left his position on Ambion Hill and led a mounted charge towards Henry Tudor's forces. Richard was killed in the fighting, and Henry Tudor subsequently became King Henry VII.
The armies of this era included contingents associated with individual nobles, with livery colours and badges serving as important symbols of allegiance and identification.
This individual archer complements the wider range of Yorkist infantry and command figures, making it suitable for collectors building a historical display of the Battle of Bosworth Field.
