THYORK-07 - Archer | John Jenkins Designs

This Yorkist Archer represents an infantryman serving the House of York during the Wars of the Roses, the prolonged struggle for the English throne between the rival branches of the Plantagenet dynasty.

The figure belongs to the Wars of the Roses collection, which includes the forces involved in the Battle of Bosworth Field on 22 August 1485. This decisive battle brought together the army of King Richard III and the Lancastrian forces commanded by Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond.

An important characteristic of the armies during this period was the use of household retainers and soldiers serving powerful noblemen. Livery colours and badges were widely employed to identify these followers, often becoming more recognisable than the personal coats of arms of their commanders.

The Battle of Bosworth Field ended with the defeat and death of Richard III, bringing the reign of the House of York to an end and establishing the Tudor dynasty.

This archer provides a useful addition to Yorkist infantry displays and can be combined with other archers, billmen and men-at-arms to recreate the battlefield formations of the period.
