WFIND-01 - Compagnie des Indes Troops | John Jenkins Designs

This release represents French Compagnie des Indes infantry serving during the Third Carnatic War and the Battle of Wandewash on 22 January 1760.

The figures belong to the Seven Years' War collection and depict the French military forces operating in India during the struggle against British expansion.

The Compagnie des Indes maintained its own military establishment, which included infantry, dragoons, horse grenadiers and artillerymen.

From 1746, a substantial part of these forces served under Charles Joseph Patissier de Bussy-Castelnau, commonly known as Bussy.

In 1756, approximately 700 European troops and 1,500 sepoys of the company relieved Vellore during operations against British forces.

The company's soldiers subsequently participated in the campaigns along the Coromandel Coast.

On 22 January 1760, the Bataillon des Indes fought at the Battle of Wandewash, an important engagement during the Third Carnatic War.

French forces also participated in the defence of Pondicherry, which eventually surrendered in January 1761.

This release provides an excellent addition to a French colonial infantry formation depicting the military campaigns in India during the Seven Years' War.
