WIM-09 - Youth | John Jenkins Designs

This Woodland Indian Youth Watching Lacrosse represents a young spectator observing a traditional lacrosse game among the indigenous peoples of North America.

The figure belongs to the Battle on the Monongahela, 1755 collection and provides an interesting representation of everyday life and recreation among the Woodland Indian communities.

Lacrosse is recognised as one of the oldest team sports in North America, with origins among the Eastern Woodland peoples and other indigenous communities.

Traditional games could involve exceptionally large numbers of participants, sometimes between 100 and 1,000 players from neighbouring villages or tribes. Matches could continue for several days, with the playing fields extending across substantial distances between opposing goals.

The game carried considerable cultural importance. In addition to recreation and celebration, lacrosse was used to strengthen young warriors, develop physical endurance and sometimes resolve disputes between neighbouring communities.

The youth depicted in this figure provides a different perspective on these traditional sporting events, representing the spectators who gathered to watch the competition.

An excellent addition to a Woodland Indian village or lacrosse display, particularly when combined with the other players and accessories from the collection.

Now available from The Military Workshop.
