GGMI-12 – The Anglo-Zulu War – The Battle of Gingindlovu, 2nd April 1879 – The Eshowe Relief Column – Mounted Infantry and Zulu Warrior (3 pcs)

The Anglo-Zulu War was characterised by fast-moving engagements in which mobility often proved just as important as firepower. British Mounted Infantry provided commanders with flexible troops capable of scouting ahead, pursuing retreating enemies and responding rapidly wherever pressure developed. Opposing them were the warriors of the Zulu Kingdom, whose courage, endurance and disciplined battlefield tactics made them among the most respected indigenous fighting forces ever encountered by the British Army.

The Battle of Gingindlovu demonstrated the contrast between two very different military traditions. While British mounted troops relied upon firearms, mobility and disciplined tactics, Zulu warriors fought with extraordinary determination using the famous iklwa stabbing spear and large cowhide shield. The clash between these opposing styles of warfare created one of the defining campaigns of nineteenth-century military history.

This dramatic three-piece set captures that historic confrontation with remarkable realism. The interaction between the mounted infantrymen and the Zulu warrior creates an exciting sense of movement and narrative, making the set ideal as the centrepiece of a battlefield diorama. Every figure displays exceptional sculptural quality, authentic uniforms and equipment, together with a beautifully hand-painted finish that highlights the remarkable attention to detail.

At The Military Workshop, we know collectors value pieces that tell a complete story, and this outstanding set perfectly captures the intensity, courage and drama of the Anglo-Zulu War.
