CID-08 – Spanish Knight | John Jenkins Designs
The period known as the Reconquista was one of the most complex and colourful eras in the military history of medieval Spain.
During the 11th century, the Iberian Peninsula was divided between Christian kingdoms and Muslim-ruled territories, with alliances and rivalries frequently changing according to political and military circumstances.
This period was closely associated with the legendary Spanish warrior El Cid, whose lifetime spanned approximately 1040–1099.
According to the historical background provided by John Jenkins Designs, the military forces of this period included Christian knights, Andalusian soldiers and warriors from the powerful North African Almoravid and Almohad movements.
Heavy cavalry became increasingly important during this era, particularly in the northern kingdoms of Aragon and Catalonia, where military influences from France were especially strong.
CID-08 – Spanish Knight by John Jenkins Designs depicts a mounted Spanish cavalryman armed with a spear.
The figure carries a distinctive yellow-and-red striped round shield decorated with three horsetails.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs The Crusades – El Cid and the Reconquista collection, this mounted warrior complements the other Spanish knights and infantry figures.
An excellent addition to a display depicting the military campaigns of medieval Spain.
