GMP-14T – Taira Samurai | John Jenkins Designs

The Gempei War (1180–1185) was fought between the Taira and Minamoto clans during the late Heian period of Japanese history.

The Taira, also known as the Heike, were closely associated with the imperial court and became renowned for their accomplishments as warriors, artists and men of letters.

According to John Jenkins Designs, archery was one of the most highly regarded military skills of the period, particularly among the elite samurai.

The traditional Japanese longbow, known as the yumi, was an important weapon, and samurai warriors were expected to demonstrate skill and accuracy in its use.

GMP-14T – Taira Samurai by John Jenkins Designs depicts a Taira Clan samurai foot archer armed with a yumi bow.

This figure represents the archery traditions of the Japanese samurai during the Gempei War.

Part of the John Jenkins Designs Gempei War collection, the figure complements the manufacturer's Taira mounted archers and infantry retainers.
