GMP-20MB – Minamoto Retainer | John Jenkins Designs
During the late Heian period, Japanese military forces were organised around powerful aristocratic families and their supporting warriors.
The Gempei War brought two of these families, the Minamoto and Taira, into conflict in a struggle that transformed the political structure of Japan.
John Jenkins Designs explains that individual samurai were generally accompanied by a small group of lighter-armoured retainers.
These warriors often wore do-maru armour, a simpler form of protection constructed using leather and silk lacing.
Retainers formed an important supporting element within the military forces represented in the manufacturer's Gempei War collection.
GMP-20MB – Minamoto Retainer depicts a Minamoto Clan warrior equipped with armour and a naginata.
This individual variation complements GMP-20MA and the other retainers serving the Minamoto Clan.
An excellent addition to a display representing the military forces of the Gempei War.
