GMP-21MA – Minamoto Retainer | John Jenkins Designs

The Minamoto Clan played a central role in the Gempei War, which was fought against the rival Taira family between 1180 and 1185.

The conflict brought an end to Taira dominance and established the foundations of the Kamakura shogunate.

According to John Jenkins Designs, the armies of the period included elite samurai warriors accompanied by groups of lighter-armoured retainers.

These soldiers commonly wore do-maru armour, which was constructed using treated leather and silk lacing.

The retainers provided an important supporting element for the samurai warriors serving their respective clans.

GMP-21MA – Minamoto Retainer by John Jenkins Designs depicts a warrior belonging to the Minamoto military forces.

The figure forms part of the manufacturer's collection of Japanese retainers and complements the other Minamoto warriors available in the Gempei War range.
