GMP-21MB – Minamoto Retainer | John Jenkins Designs

The Gempei War was one of the most significant conflicts of medieval Japan, bringing the powerful Minamoto and Taira families into a struggle for control of the country.

Both clans traced their ancestry to the imperial family, although their lifestyles and political associations differed considerably.

John Jenkins Designs describes how the Taira maintained close ties with the imperial court, while the Minamoto were more strongly associated with provincial military traditions.

The samurai warriors of the period were accompanied by retainers who commonly wore simpler armour known as do-maru.

These soldiers formed part of the military forces supporting their respective clans.

GMP-21MB – Minamoto Retainer by John Jenkins Designs represents one of the warriors serving the Minamoto family.

This individual figure provides an alternative variation to GMP-21MA and complements the other Minamoto retainers in the collection.
