GMP-22MB – Samurai Retainer | John Jenkins Designs
The Gempei War was a conflict between the Taira and Minamoto clans that took place during the late Heian period of Japan.
The two families represented powerful aristocratic lineages whose struggle would eventually lead to the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate.
John Jenkins Designs describes the military forces of this period as including mounted samurai supported by groups of retainers.
The retainers commonly wore do-maru armour, a simpler form of protection than the elaborate yoroi associated with the mounted samurai elite.
These warriors formed an important part of the military forces represented in the manufacturer's collection.
GMP-22MB – Samurai Retainer by John Jenkins Designs represents a retainer serving the Minamoto Clan.
This variation complements GMP-22MA and the other Minamoto warriors, allowing collectors to expand their infantry formations from the Gempei War.
