GW019A – Corporal Alvin York
On 8 October 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, American soldier Alvin C. York took part in an action that would make him one of the best-known US servicemen of the First World War.
After his group came under intense German machine-gun fire, York played a central role in overcoming enemy positions and the capture of a large number of German soldiers. He was subsequently awarded the Medal of Honor.
