GW099 – General Sir John Monash
Few Australian commanders emerged from the First World War with a reputation equal to General Sir John Monash.
An engineer and citizen soldier before the war, Monash rose to command the Australian Corps in 1918. His careful coordination of infantry, artillery, tanks and aircraft was demonstrated particularly effectively at the Battle of Hamel on 4 July 1918, and Australian forces under his command played a major role in the Allied offensives that followed.
Today, Monash is widely regarded as one of Australia's most important military commanders.
GW099 – General Sir John Monash is therefore an essential personality for a serious Australian Great War collection, whether displayed with senior officers or alongside the Australian troops he commanded.
Available from The Military Workshop – a distinguished Thomas Gunn portrayal of General Sir John Monash, one of the most significant Australian commanders of the First World War.
