GW100B – Corporal Walter Brown VC – 20th Battalion AIF
On 6 July 1918, near Villers-Bretonneux, Australian soldier Walter Ernest Brown carried out the remarkable action for which he would receive the Victoria Cross.
Serving with the 20th Battalion AIF, Brown advanced alone towards an enemy position armed with hand grenades. His actions resulted in the surrender of a German officer and twelve other soldiers, including a machine-gun crew.
Brown survived the Great War but volunteered for service again during the Second World War. He was reported missing following the fall of Singapore in 1942 and is believed to have been killed.
GW100B honours a remarkable Australian soldier whose service spanned both world wars.
Available through The Military Workshop – a Thomas Gunn portrayal of Corporal Walter Brown VC, one of the 20th Battalion's most distinguished soldiers.
