LONGSHIP2 – Viking Longship | John Jenkins Designs

The Viking longship was one of the most important developments in Scandinavian maritime history, enabling Norse explorers, traders and warriors to undertake remarkable voyages across the seas of Northern Europe and the North Atlantic.

During the Viking Age, these vessels travelled enormous distances, reaching territories from North America in the west to the eastern Mediterranean.

The distinctive longship design combined speed, manoeuvrability and a shallow draught, allowing vessels to travel across open water while also navigating rivers and landing directly upon beaches.

Constructed primarily from wood, Viking longships featured overlapping planking, rows of oars and a rectangular sail mounted upon a single mast. Their double-ended construction also allowed them to change direction without requiring the vessel to turn around.

LONGSHIP2 – Viking Dragon (Dreki) Longship by John Jenkins Designs recreates one of these remarkable Scandinavian vessels.

This version features a distinctive black-and-white sail, rather than the red-and-white sail of the original longship release.

The complete set includes:

  • 20 Viking crewmen rowing

  • 6 Viking warriors

  • 20 shields

  • 23 oars

The impressive vessel measures approximately 59 cm long, 35 cm wide including the oars, and 48 cm high.
