MGMP-02A – Warrior Monk | John Jenkins Designs
The Gempei War was fought between the Taira and Minamoto clans from 1180 to 1185, bringing significant changes to the political and military structure of medieval Japan.
Among the forces participating in the conflict were the warrior monks, or Sohei, associated with Buddhist monasteries.
The monks played an important role during the early stages of the war, sometimes fighting in support of the Minamoto and sometimes alongside the Taira.
According to John Jenkins Designs, these warriors generally wore basic armour beneath their traditional monastic robes.
MGMP-02A – Warrior Monk depicts a Japanese warrior monk wearing white robes with red armour and carrying a katana.
The figure represents an alternative weapon and clothing arrangement within the manufacturer's collection of Sohei warriors.
It complements the naginata-armed monks and other figures from the Gempei War range.
