MGMP-06B – Warrior Monk | John Jenkins Designs
During the late Heian period, the Sohei, or warrior monks, participated in the military struggles between the powerful families of medieval Japan.
The Gempei War brought the Taira and Minamoto clans into conflict between 1180 and 1185, ultimately ending with the defeat of the Taira.
The warrior monks were associated with religious institutions that maintained their own armed forces.
John Jenkins Designs explains that these monks could support different factions during the fighting and that protective armour was often worn beneath their traditional robes.
MGMP-06B – Warrior Monk depicts a Japanese warrior monk wearing green armour and carrying a nagamaki.
This variation provides an alternative appearance to MGMP-06A, which features black and red armour.
The figure complements the other Sohei warriors in the John Jenkins Designs Gempei War collection.
