PMRR-02R – Principes | John Jenkins Designs

The Principes occupied one of the most important positions within the traditional Roman manipular battle line.

Generally regarded as more experienced than the Hastati, they formed the second line and were expected to continue the fight if the younger soldiers ahead of them could not break the enemy.

PMRR-02R – Principes represents one of these experienced heavy infantrymen, equipped with the red shield variation.

The layered structure of the manipular legion meant that Rome could commit its troops in stages rather than exhausting the entire army at once. This provided valuable depth in battles that could become prolonged and uncertain.

For a collector, PMRR-02R works naturally behind a line of Hastati, with centurions and standards positioned among the formation to create a more historically structured Roman army.

Available from The Military Workshop – an excellent John Jenkins Designs Princeps representing the experienced second line of the Mid-Republic legion.
