PMRR-02RN – 3 Principes | John Jenkins Designs

A convincing Roman army needs depth as well as width, and PMRR-02RN – 3 Principes provides a ready-made group of experienced infantrymen for the second line of the legion.

The Principes were traditionally positioned behind the Hastati and represented men with greater military experience. If the younger first line was unable to decide the battle, the Principes could move forward and continue the engagement.

This arrangement gave the Roman army a resilience that became one of the strengths of its manipular system.

The three-figure format makes PMRR-02RN particularly useful for collectors building larger formations. Several sets can be combined to create a substantial second line while still allowing room for centurions, standards and other command figures.

Available through The Military Workshop – a substantial John Jenkins Designs three-figure set for building the experienced red-shield Principes of Republican Rome.
