PMRR-02Y – Principes | John Jenkins Designs

PMRR-02Y – Principes represents one of the experienced heavy infantrymen who stood behind the Hastati in the traditional Roman battle formation.

Shown with the yellow shield variation, the figure offers collectors another way to organise and colour their Mid-Republic force.

The Principes were not simply reserve troops waiting at the rear. They formed an essential second line, ready to take over the fighting if the men ahead of them were unable to defeat the enemy.

This layered structure gave the Roman army considerable staying power, particularly during the hard-fought wars of the 4th and 3rd centuries BC.

PMRR-02Y makes an excellent addition to a yellow-shield formation, especially when combined with command figures and other Principes variants.

Available from The Military Workshop – a strong John Jenkins Designs figure representing one of the experienced soldiers at the heart of the Republican Roman army.
