Cavalry within the Praetorian system
While the Praetorian Guard was primarily infantry, it did include:
- Mounted escorts for imperial movement
- Cavalry detachments for rapid response and courier duties
- Security units for travel outside Rome
These mounted elements are sometimes informally referred to as “Praetorian cavalry”, though they were not a separate formal legion like standard Roman cavalry units.
