The Roman legion's reputation rested upon organisation as much as battlefield courage, and that organisation extended into the daily routines of camp.

ROM201B – The Washerman depicts a soldier performing one of those ordinary duties, this time accompanied by a black shield.

Although less dramatic than a legionary charging into combat, camp-life figures provide something equally valuable to a collector: context. They show the soldiers as members of a functioning army that had to eat, sleep, wash, maintain equipment and prepare for the next day's march.

The black-shield variation can be paired with ROM200B Water Carrier to create a coordinated group or mixed freely among the other versions.

It would look particularly effective within a cluster of tents and equipment, surrounded by other Romans relaxing or carrying out camp duties.
