ROMBYZ003B - Imperial Guardsman with Green Chi Ro Shield

The Imperial Guard represented the strength and authority of the Roman emperor, serving as an elite force responsible for protection, ceremony, and military duties. During the later Roman period, these soldiers reflected the changing identity of the empire, combining traditional Roman military heritage with the growing influence of Christianity.

The Chi Rho symbol, formed from the first two Greek letters of the word “Christ,” became one of the earliest and most recognisable Christian symbols adopted by the Roman Empire after Constantine’s reign.

ROMBYZ003B - Imperial Guardsman with Green Chi Ro Shield portrays an elite soldier carrying a shield featuring the Chi Rho emblem, representing the merging of Roman military tradition and Christian imperial symbolism. The figure’s armour and confident pose capture the prestige of those who served close to imperial authority.

A distinctive addition to Roman and Byzantine displays, this figure offers collectors a fascinating glimpse into a period of transformation within the ancient world.

Available from The Military Workshop, ROMBYZ003B - Imperial Guardsman with Green Chi Ro Shield is a valuable piece for enthusiasts interested in the later Roman Empire and its evolving military traditions.
