ROMBYZ003C - Imperial Guardsman with Young Apostle Shield

During the later years of the Roman Empire, the influence of Christianity grew significantly, eventually becoming closely connected with imperial authority. Following the conversion of Emperor Constantine in the 4th century AD, Christian symbols began appearing throughout Roman military and political life, representing a major transformation in the history of the empire.

ROMBYZ003C - Imperial Guardsman with Young Apostle Shield depicts a Byzantine-era imperial soldier carrying a shield decorated with Christian symbolism. These elite troops served as protectors of the emperor and represented the continued military traditions of Rome as the empire evolved into its Eastern Roman, or Byzantine, form.

The figure’s detailed armour, commanding stance, and distinctive shield design make it a striking addition to late Roman and Byzantine collections. It provides collectors with the opportunity to explore the transition from the classical Roman world into the medieval era.

Available from The Military Workshop, ROMBYZ003C - Imperial Guardsman with Young Apostle Shield is a unique historical piece that adds depth and character to any collection focused on the evolution of Roman military power.
