The RS056 - Baron Takeichi Nishi portrays one of the most fascinating and distinctive Japanese officers of the Second World War.
Baron Takeichi Nishi (1902–1945) was a Japanese cavalry officer, Olympic gold medallist and commander during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Before his military career, Nishi achieved international recognition by winning the individual gold medal in equestrian show jumping at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
During the defence of Iwo Jima in 1945, Nishi commanded the 26th Tank Regiment. The battle became one of the most intense and costly engagements of the Pacific War, with Japanese defenders holding the island against overwhelming Allied forces for more than a month.
Nishi’s combination of military service, sporting achievement and leadership made him a unique figure in wartime history. This figure represents not only a commander, but a remarkable individual whose life crossed the worlds of sport, tradition and warfare.
A standout piece for collectors interested in Pacific War history, Japanese commanders and the personalities behind major historical events.
