The RS085B - Field Marshall Sir Thomas Blamey - Rectangular Base commemorates one of Australia’s most significant military leaders of the 20th century.
Sir Thomas Blamey (1884–1951) was the only Australian soldier to achieve the rank of Field Marshal. He played a central role in the development and command of Australian forces during both World War I and World War II, becoming Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Military Forces during the Second World War.
Blamey served with distinction during the First World War, rising through the ranks and gaining valuable experience as a staff officer. During World War II, he oversaw Australian operations across multiple theatres, including campaigns in the Middle East, Greece, North Africa, the Pacific and New Guinea.
