The SFA035A - Private Kneeling to Repel represents the frontline British infantryman preparing to defend against a charging enemy during one of the most famous conflicts of the Victorian era.
The private soldier formed the backbone of the British Army and was expected to remain disciplined and effective under the most demanding battlefield conditions. During the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, soldiers faced highly motivated Zulu warriors whose speed, courage and close-combat skills made them a formidable opponent.
