The SFA041C - Zulu Charging with Knobkerrie depicts a Zulu warrior advancing into combat armed with a knobkerrie, a traditional fighting club used alongside the shield and spear.
The knobkerrie was a versatile weapon used by many southern African peoples and could be employed in close combat or thrown with considerable accuracy. For Zulu warriors, it complemented their primary weapons and formed part of the equipment carried into battle.
During the Anglo-Zulu War, Zulu soldiers relied on mobility, courage and aggressive tactics to engage British forces at close range. Their distinctive appearance, including decorated shields, traditional weapons and regimented formations, has made them among the most recognisable warriors in military history.
This figure captures the determination and movement of a warrior rushing into battle, making it a valuable addition to displays featuring the Zulu Kingdom and the conflicts of the Victorian era.
