The SFA042A - Charging Zulu Warrior with Assegai Raised captures a Zulu warrior in the midst of an attack, raising his assegai as he charges towards the enemy.

During the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, Zulu regiments were feared for their speed, discipline and ability to launch devastating close-range assaults. The traditional Zulu warrior carried the iklwa, a short stabbing spear introduced during the reforms of King Shaka Zulu, which transformed Zulu warfare from long-range spear fighting into a more aggressive close-combat style.

Zulu warriors also carried the nguni shield, made from cattle hide and used both defensively and as part of their offensive tactics. Their skill in formation movement allowed them to execute coordinated attacks that could overwhelm larger forces.

This figure portrays the energy and intensity of the Zulu charge, making it an impressive centrepiece for collections depicting the battles of Rorke’s Drift, Isandlwana and the wider Anglo-Zulu War.

A superb historical miniature for collectors of military history, Victorian-era warfare and iconic battles.
