SK-05 – Beothuk Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
The Norse exploration of North America during the early 11th century brought Scandinavian seafarers into contact with Indigenous peoples living in the lands described in the Viking sagas as Vinland.
According to the historical background published by John Jenkins Designs, the Norse referred to these peoples as Skraelings.
The sagas describe encounters involving trading, disputes and occasional fighting between the visiting Norse settlers and local communities.
One of the important differences between the two groups was their military equipment, with the Vikings possessing iron weapons while Indigenous warriors employed weapons made from locally available materials.
SK-05 – Beothuk Warrior by John Jenkins Designs portrays an Indigenous warrior armed with a spear and knife.
The figure is depicted preparing to throw his spear, representing one of the fighting poses in the manufacturer's Skraelings collection.
The combination of spear-armed warriors and archers provides collectors with an opportunity to recreate a varied force inspired by the Norse accounts of their encounters in North America.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Conquest of America – Skraelings, The Beothuk range.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
