SS003(B) - 5cm Mortar with 3 HG Crew
Mortars provided infantry units with a flexible and highly effective method of delivering indirect fire support during the Second World War. Unlike larger artillery pieces, mortars could be operated close to the front line, allowing infantry formations to respond quickly to changing battlefield situations.
This set features a 5cm mortar with three HG crew members, depicting the teamwork required to operate a small mortar team. Each member had an important responsibility, from carrying ammunition and preparing rounds to aiming and firing the weapon. Success depended upon coordination, speed, and communication under often dangerous conditions.
The 5cm mortar was widely used during the early and middle years of the war, providing infantry units with additional firepower against enemy positions, defensive points, and concentrations of troops. While smaller than many later mortar systems, it remained a valuable support weapon.
The inclusion of multiple crew figures creates a realistic tactical scene rather than a simple equipment display. It is ideally suited for infantry dioramas, defensive positions, battlefield scenes, or larger formations where supporting weapons are represented.
The Military Workshop offers collectors historically detailed military sets that showcase the soldiers behind the equipment, helping bring together weapons, crews, and battlefield environments into complete and engaging displays.
