SS045A - Ernst Barkmann in Summer - Knights Cross Recipient
SS045A - Ernst Barkmann in Summer - Knights Cross Recipient is a finely detailed collectible figure depicting one of the most well-known German Panther tank commanders of the Normandy Campaign in 1944.
Ernst Barkmann (1919–2009) began his military career before World War II and later served in the Waffen-SS, becoming an experienced armoured vehicle commander. During the Normandy campaign, he served with the 4th Company, SS-Panzer-Regiment 2 “Das Reich”, operating the powerful Panther Ausf. A tank against Allied forces following the D-Day landings.
During the intense fighting around Saint-Lô in July 1944, Barkmann and his Panther crew were involved in a defensive action against advancing American armoured units. The engagement became popularly known as “Barkmann’s Corner”, where his tank was credited with engaging Allied armoured vehicles and helping delay the Allied advance. For his actions during the Normandy campaign, Barkmann was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross on 27 August 1944.
The Panther tank was one of Germany’s most advanced armoured vehicles of World War II, combining a powerful 75mm gun, excellent frontal armour and strong battlefield mobility. Panther crews played a significant role in the defensive battles fought across Normandy as German armoured divisions attempted to contain the Allied breakout following Operation Overlord.
This summer uniform figure captures Barkmann wearing his Knight’s Cross and represents a notable armoured commander from one of the most significant campaigns of World War II. It is an excellent addition to collections focusing on WWII armoured warfare, Panther tanks, Normandy 1944, and military history.
A beautifully crafted collector’s piece, ideal for enthusiasts and collectors of historically themed military miniatures.
